Advice please on after match travel plans
Hi there - I am bringing my seven year old son next week for the Wolves match and I am thinking about skipping the queue at Upton Park after the match and walking to Plaistow as he didn't like the queue last time around.

Does anyone on here do this? Does it make much of a difference and will we be able to get onto a train?

How long is the walk etc.?

Many thanks for any advice offered.

Walking to Plaistow is definitely the best option, not too bad a walk, never a queue the trains aren't even that busy if you walk all the way to the end of the platform is you are heading West.

Mr T

I regularly take my six year old Grandson to matches we sometimes walk to Plaistow - he doesn't mind the walk. Last Saturday we walked to East Ham - both take about the same time. We went to East Ham because we were going back to Upminster as the trains to Stratford were canceled.

If you leave 5mins before the end because we are 5 up Upton Park is not too bad

I do this after each game now, both my kids (7 and 9) quite like the walk and find it fine. Always jump straight on at Plaistow and the tubes aren't actually that busy either.

Will the bus from UP to Canning Town take hours stuck in traffic? First trip for a while, and possibly my last trip to the old girl and cant decide whether to queue at UP, walk to EH or get the bus, plus I'll have Mrs V in tow moaning that she's cold/her feet hurt/she's hungry (no link)

When I take my boy I've started going to Canning Town. Yes it's a bit of a schlep but there's usually a bus or two to take us most of the way there..........

I've been to both East Ham or Plaistow after the match, distance is about the same, East Ham is more direct and I've found it takes a lot longer via Plaistow because of the Black Lion.

I travel West on my way home but always walk to East Ham. Benefits- Well lit and passes a few shops . You will get a seat on the Tube before it gets to UP. 20 mins at normal pace.

Re: Advice please on after match travel plans
Mr T - it depends which direction you're heading on the train as much as anything. You want to walk to the station BEFORE Upton Park for whichever way you're going, then you'll get on easily.
